Intro
Chobe National Park is a treasure trove are wildlife and rare moments. During my visit, I had my camera ready to try and capture all the amazing animals we could see. Not all moments were captured, but I gathered some of my favorite unfiltered photos of animals I took from when I went on safari in Chobe National Park. Enjoy!
Elephants Everywhere
Chobe is often called the “elephant capital of Africa” and it really didn’t take long to see why. Herds of elephants are everywhere! They’re crossing roads, grazing in the bush, and even swimming in the Chobe River. One of the most heartwarming sights of my trip was watching a baby elephant splash in the shallows while its mother stood protectively nearby.

Lion Pride
I was lucky enough to spot a pride of lions lounging in the shade on a morning game drive. The lionesses kept a watchful eye while the cubs relaxed or fed on its mother’s teat. On an afternoon game drive, we saw another pride hunting for their next meal, where we got to witness one chasing a wild boar! Leopards proved to be more elusive though where we ended up not being able to spot one, but just knowing they were out there was still a thrill.

Graceful Giraffes & Zebra
I also loved seeing the more peaceful grazers: tall giraffes nibbling leaves from treetops or sipping from the puddles, elegant kudu with spiraled horns, and herds of zebra roaming the lands. These quieter moments balanced out the excitement of seeing predators and reminded me of the incredible diversity of wildlife in Chobe.

Hungry Hippos & Buffalo
The Chobe River is full of hippos, who stick out as large round beasts. They were chilling in the water or grazing on the river bank grasses. Another massive beast were the massive buffalo that were either grazing on the grasses or munching on some bushes. These giant beasts were also such a sight to see.

Crocodiles on the Banks
Crocodiles lined the riverbank, silent and still where some were basking in the sun with their jaws slightly open. Some crocodiles blended so well in the grasses and water, that they were easy to miss! These are frightening creatures but yet also quite incredible considering they’re basically dinosaurs lol.

Birds in Every Color
Chobe is a birdwatcher’s paradise, even if you’re not usually into birding. You can spot brightly colored lilac-breasted rollers, striking African fish eagles, and tiny kingfishers. Their flashy color against the earthy tones of the landscape is intriguing in the way that their striking colors was a part of their evolution in a land full of predators that want to eat them.

Other Animals
Some other animals we saw were boar, monkeys, mongoose, a turtoise and a jackal!

Final Words
Seeing animals in the wild is an experience that never feels ordinary. In Chobe, I saw so many animals where I felt truly immersed in their natural habitat. The thundering herds of elephants, the silent stare of a crocodile, and the intimidation of the lion pride reminded me of the beauty and fragility of the natural world. If you’re dreaming of a safari, Chobe National Park is one of those rare places where animals truly rule the land.
