Intro
Australia Zoo is home of the legendary Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, and is a must-visit if you’re visiting Brisbane, Australia. If you’re planning a trip to the iconic Australia Zoo then you are probably wondering about what is the best way to get there from Brisbane? There are options to drive, take an Uber, public transportation, but nothing beats taking a comfortable and convenient shuttle to get there with Croc Tours!
Why Book a Tour Instead of Going on Your Own?
Australia Zoo is located in the city of Beerwah which is about 46.5 miles (75 km) from Brisbane. If you’re not planning a trip to the Sunshine Coast (which is closer to Australia Zoo) and are instead in Brisbane, then you’re going to need to figure out how to get to Australia Zoo. Australia Zoo which is about an 1 hour & 15-30 min drive from Brisbane. Maybe more depending on traffic conditions.
The Inconvenient Options
Public transportation is available where you take a combination of trains and buses, however this option does not stop directly at the zoo entrance. You are also able to take an Uber but the cost to drive 1.5 hours away will be pricey. Driving yourself is also an option, however, you will have to drive ~1.5 hours there and back, and also have to deal with parking.
Choose Stress-Free Logistics
For me, these options seemed way too inconvenient and exhausting. So, I needed to find the best way to get from Brisbane to Australia Zoo! In my research I found a transportation “day trip tour” that will take you to directly to the Zoo! So I went ahead and booked it and boarded the mini shuttle on my Australia Zoo day while in Brisbane. It really was the most convenient and comfortable method to get the Australia Zoo so I can’t recommend it enough!
What Makes this Day Trip Tour So Great?
This small-group day trip tour will make your visit to the Australia Zoo stress-free, comfortable, and enjoyable. Here’s why it’s my top recommendation:
Pick-up From & Drop-off in Brisbane
The tour includes pick-up and drop-ff from a couple of options located in Brisbane. When I visited, the pick-up point was only a short 10 minute walk from my hotel. It was a nice stroll along the waterfront of the Brisbane River with great views of the Story bridge and the Brisbane city skyline in the morning.
Comfortable Transport
The ride is an air-conditioned shuttle with comfortable cushioned seats. A knowledgeable guide also came along on the ride to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible. My fiancé and I had booked an animal encounter tour and the guide did ensure we make our encounter on time. He even made sure we knew where to go for the encounter when he dropped off of at the zoo!
Commentary during the Drive
At times during our ride, the guide provided commentary with interesting information about some of the things we were seeing. He did not speak the entire time though to allow people to nap on the way to the museum since pick-up was at 7:30 AM.
Skip-the-line Entry
The tour also includes skip-the-line entry to the zoo! This definitely helped when my fiance and I needed to make our animal encounter. The guide just walked us through the turn stiles, skipping the entire line that had queued there. Heading straight into the zoo and not waiting in any line will make the most of your time at Australia Zoo.
Plenty of Free time At the Zoo
You will have around 6 hours to explore the zoo on your own. This was plenty of time to wander through the exhibits, eat lunch, visit the wildlife hospital, or even watch the Crocoseum show. Our guide also shared a recommended route to go about the zoo so that we could see everything before the 3 PM pick-up.

Small Group Experience
The tour only allows 10 people since that is how many the shuttle is able to fit. But not only that, but the small group makes the tour feel more relaxed and personal. It also helps to minimize and limit the possibility for any “late” people during the pick-ups.
