The Nagano Snow Monkeys (aka Japanese Macaques) live in the mountains, bathe in the natural hot spring (onsen), & are protected by the Monkey Park. Some tips for your visit:
• 30 min snowy walk each way
• Bring proper footwear
• Don’t expect every monkey to be in the hot spring. There is a hierarchy where only the 2nd ranking females are allowed to enjoy the hot spring
• Don’t expect to see [a ton of] monkeys. They are wild animals so their presence is not guaranteed. Winter months (Dec - Mar) are the best times to see them, although they can visit all year round
• Respect distance and their space
