Intro
When you think of Fiji, you probably picture white-sand beaches, turquoise lagoons, and palm trees. But just inland from Nadi’s resorts is a very different kind of Fijian experience: the natural mud pools and hot springs at Tifajek. I visited recently to see if soaking in warm volcanic mud and mineral pools lives up to the hype. This review goes over what to expect at Tifajek Mud Pool & Hotspring, and whether it’s worth adding to your Fiji itinerary.

What & Where Is Tifajek?
Tifajek Mud Pool & Hotspring is about a 25-minute drive from Nadi International Airport, located right at the base of the Sabeto Mountains. Unlike the more commercialized Sabeto Hot Springs next door, Tifajek feels more intimate and locally owned, with staff who personally guide you through the experience.
The Experience: Step-by-Step
1. Mudding Up
You start by slathering yourself in thick, warm grey mud from head to toe. It’s strangely satisfying and easy to apply. After a few minutes, the mud dries and cracks on your skin. You’ll look like a clay statue.

2. Rinsing Off in the Mud Pool
Once the mud has dried, you then dip and rinse off in the nearby mud pool to wash away all the mud. The water here is a bit cooler and perfect for getting the clay off your skin. Your legs will feel so nice and smooth after!

3. Soaking in the Hot Springs
Finally, you move to the hotter mineral pool right across from the mud pool. There are a couple of pools of varying temperatures, all surrounded by lush greenery and mountain views. Sit back, relax in the warm waters, let the minerals do their thing, and enjoy the serene tropical atmosphere.

What I Liked
Authentic, Local Feel
Unlike big spa resorts, Tifajek feels homegrown and family-run. The staff are warm and happy to explain the process.
Affordable Entry
The entrance fee is reasonable, and even with a massage added on, it’s much cheaper than a spa at a resort.
Natural Setting
The views of the Sabeto Mountains give the experience a tranquil and mystical vibe The hotspring grounds also have tall towering trees that provide ample shade and bring a more lush and tropical vibe to the atmosphere.
Great Skin Feel
The mud and waters have minerals that will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth afterwards. Not to mention, the steam coming off the hot springs help to open pores and leave your face feelings refreshed and clean afterwards.

Tips to Make the Most of Your Adventure
1. Facilities are Basic
Don’t expect luxury spa changing rooms. The facilities are simple but clean. Be sure to bring your own towel too.
2. Bring Old or Dark-Colored Swimwear
The mud can sometimes stain light-colored fabrics. So, be sure to wear swimwear that’s either old where you don’t mind if it gets stained, or dark-colored swimwear so stains are unnoticeable.
3. Bring Cash
Have some Fijian Dollars on hand for the entrance fee.
Final Words: Worth It!
If you’re staying in Nadi or on a layover and want something unique to do beyond the beaches, then Tifajek Mud Pool & Hotspring offers a genuine Fijian experience. It’s relaxing, playful, and affordable. However, if you’re expecting a polished resort-style spa, you may be disappointed. But if you go with an open mind and a willingness to get muddy, then Tifajek is a memorable stop well worth the short trip from Nadi. I hope this review encourages you to add Tifejek Mud Pool & Hotspring to your Nadi itinerary.
