Intro
Victoria Falls is world-famous for its natural wonder but it’s also known as Africa’s adrenaline capital. If you’re looking for the ultimate thrill, Victoria Falls Bridge offers three unforgettable thrill experiences: the zipline, the bridge swing, and the bungee jump. Each takes place over the Zambezi Gorge with Victoria Falls thundering nearby. This Victoria Falls guide will go over what to expect when you either zipline, swing, or bungee jump as well as help you decide which activity to do.

Location
Arriving at the Bridge
The Victoria Falls Bridge sits on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, and the activities are run by a licensed operator right in the middle of this historic structure. The check-in area is at the end of the bridge where there’s also a waiting area with couches, and a small cafe with a view of Victoria Bridge and the activities.

Safety Briefing and Gear
Before any activity, trained staff give a full safety briefing. You’ll be fitted with a harness and helmet, and they’ll double-check every strap and rope. The professionalism and calm confidence of the team made it easier to push aside the nerves and focus on the excitement. But don’t get me wrong, the nerves are strong..
For the Bridge Swing, the staff will go over how you should jump or walk off the bridge to get into a swing. If you’re going solo then they may instruct you to jump off the bridge. If you’re going in tandem then they may instruct you and your tandem partner to walk off the bridge in unison.
The Adrenaline Trio
1. Bridge Slide (aka Zipline)
If you want to ease into the adrenaline, then slide (aka zipline) across the Zambezi River for a more chill thrill. You’ll glide effortlessly across the river on a high-speed zipline with a view of both the Victoria Falls Bridge and the deep gorge and river below.
This is a smooth glide with hardly any drop so I would recommend starting with the zipline first if you’re going for all 3. If you’re not into drops, then definitely settle to just do the zipline. It gives you a slight thrill of soaring at a tall height but also allows you plenty of time to look around and soak in the gorge and river views.
What it feels like: Exhilarating but not terrifying—perfect for first-timers.
Duration: Just a few seconds of flight, but unforgettable.
Best for: Families, groups, or anyone wanting the thrill without a freefall.

2. Bridge Swing
Swing out over the Zambezi River for another thrilling experience. You’ll step off the Victoria Falls bridge and freefall into the gorge before swinging out in a giant pendulum motion. It’s definitely an adrenaline-pumping activity that offers a thrilling way to take in the beauty of Victoria Falls.
The Bridge Swing is similar to the bungee jump EXCEPT the harness rope is at your front to get you into a seated swing. (The bungee harness rope is at the ankles). I am not the biggest fan of the “drop” feeling so watching others do the activity before me definitely got me re-thinking if I wanted to do it.
Fortunately, I was experiencing it with a friend in the tandem jump, and we both hyped each other up and went through with it! And I’m so glad we did! Because after the initial terrifying drop when my stomach went into my throat lol, the subsequent swinging was so much fun. But, will I do it again? Probably not.
What it feels like: Pure adrenaline at first, then pure joy as you swing back and forth like a giant pendulum over the river.
Duration: A few seconds of freefall followed by multiple swings.
Best for: Anyone who wants the rush of falling but loves the sensation of swinging afterwards.

3. Bungee Jump
If you’re looking to get your heart racing and feel THE ultimate rush of adrenaline, then you should definitely leap off the historic Victoria Falls Bridge! Here, you’ll freefall ~364 feet (111 meters) towards the roaring waters of the Zambezi River. This bungee jump is not for the faint of heart but for those seeking an unforgettable thrill.
The Bungee Jump will have you harnessed and connected at the ankles and you’ll literally (and willingly) jump off the bridge and freefall down into the gorge. You’ll bounce upside down (and likely swing) since you’re connected by the ankles.
What it feels like: Terrifying in the best way possible. A true bucket-list experience.
Duration: 4 seconds freefall, followed by rebounds and hanging until you’re winched back up.
Best for: Adrenaline junkies and brave souls ticking off a world-famous bungee.

Post-Activity Return & Photos
After your activity(ies) you’ll return to the platform buzzing with adrenaline. Staff is there to disconnect your from the line and direct you off the bridge and back to the check-in area. If you do do the Bungee Jump or Bridge Swing, you will have to climb a short ladder from a lower deck to a middle deck of the bridge before walking off to a bridge end.
Back at the check-in area, you can purchase photos or videos of your jump/swing/zipline. These are definitely worth it for reliving the moment (and proof you actually did it!).
Shearwater Bungee Staff
The staff is extremely nice and welcoming and they will ensure you feel safe and entertained. They will take photos and make an edited video of the entire experience which you’ll be able to review and purchase after your jump. The staff photographers are experts too so they know how to capture your drop with minimal blur. You can also choose to do just one activity or even combine two or three activities together to experience all the adrenaline and thrill.
Victoria Falls Bridge: Zipline vs. Bridge Swing vs. Bungee Jump
| Activity | Thrill Level | Duration | Experience | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zipline | Moderate | 10–20 seconds | Glide smoothly over the Zambezi Gorge; scenic views | First-timers, families, anyone who wants fun without freefall |
| Bridge Swing | High | ~30 seconds | Step off the platform and swing in a giant arc over the river | Thrill-seekers who want freefall + swinging fun |
| Bungee Jump | Extreme | ~4 seconds freefall (plus rebounds) | Leap off the bridge for a heart-pounding drop above the river | Adrenaline junkies and bucket-list adventurers |
Tips to Make the Most of Your Adventure
1. Can Request a GoPro
If you’d like an epic video of you jumping, you are able to ask for a GoPro to hold while you bungee jump
2. Wear Secure Shoes
Wear secure shoes with laces or straps that will not fall off your feet during a jump. If you wear flip-flop sandals, you will have to take them off before the jump.
3. Remember your Bridge Swing Training
For the Bridge Swing, the staff will go over how you should jump or walk off the bridge to get into a swing. If you’re going solo then they may instruct you to jump off the bridge. If you’re going in tandem then they may instruct you and your tandem partner to walk off the bridge in unison.
4. Bridge Slide
The Slide (aka zipline) will nicely glide you to a lower bridge deck where a staff member helps you dismount the zipline
5. Post-Bungee Jump & Post-Bridge Swing: Be Careful with Ladder
After the jump, you’ll be helped onto a lower bridge deck to disconnect from the bungee harness. After which, you will have to climb up a ladder to an upper deck. Climb it slowly as to not slip and fall. Afterwards, you’ll walk along the bridge’s edge to exit off (another thrill in itself). If you took your flip-flops off before jumping, you will have to climb the ladder shoeless before retrieving your sandals.
6. Exit the Bridge with Caution
To exit the bridge, you will be attached to a metal line via a carabiner. You will need to briefly disconnect and re-connect to the line as you make your way too. But stay connected to the line as much as you can to prevent from accidentally falling off the bridge.
Where to Stay in Victoria Falls
I stayed at Shearwater’s Explorer Village which is centrally located. It’s a short walk to nearby shops, and restaurants, but also has its own restaurant, two bars and a lounging area so you can stay on site during your stay. There’s also a nice two-tier swimming pool you can relax it after a day out. Book your stay by clicking here, or check availability for your dates below and click “Search”:
Final Words
Doing the zipline, bridge swing, and bungee jump at Victoria Falls Bridge is an intense adrenaline activity but in a beautiful setting. Few places in the world let you throw yourself off a bridge with a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the background. For ultimate bragging rights, do all three thrill activities and walk away knowing you’ve braved the gorge from every angle.
