The Experience
The Arctic Roadtrip from Tromsø includes driving through Norway’s dramatic scenery and getting to stop often to take it all in. Here’s a look at how the tour experience went, stop by stop:
Arsa Aurora Viewing Spot
The first stop was at a viewpoint where you can see sweeping landscapes of mountains, valleys, and fjords. It’s a place often used for Northern Lights viewing at night, but by day it’s a fantastic photo opportunity where you can see the scale of Northern Norway’s wilderness.

Ersfjord Viewpoint
Ersfjord is a famous fjord with tall towering rugged snow-capped mountain peaks framing it. This stop is one of the most iconic fjord photo shots, so I definitely requested multiple photos from the guide to capture the moment.

Kattfjordeidet
The next stop goes through Kattfjordeidet, a mountain pass surrounded by dramatic snow-capped mountain peaks. There were small puddles around on the ground where I was able to get some awesome mirror-reflection shots here.
Dock Viewpoint on Kattfjorden
A brief stop on a dock to see more sweeping fjord views, and you get to see how clear the fjord water is here. This was one of the shorter stops but you do get to experience the quiet and stillness of the arctic.

Rørvikneset and Little Beach
Continuing along the coast, you’ll reach Rørvikneset where a small beach curves gently into turquoise waters. This spot definitely surprised me because who thought there’d be a pretty, almost tropical-looking beach this far north?! You also get amazing views of the mountains beyond, and of the Sommarøybrua Bridge.

Steinvika Beach – Picnic Lunch
About halfway through the tour, you stop at Steinvika Beach for lunch on the beach picnic tables. We were served homemade sandwiches, light snacks, and hot drinks, all surrounded by mountain and fjord views. You can also see the far-off island of Håja Island, which some believe the Arctic cathedral’s unique shape is based on. Not to mention the beach itself is rugged and wild but cozy enough to sit, relax and enjoy the arctic’s coastal views.

Traditional Norwegian Houses & Rocky Beach
Before returning to Tromsø, there’s one last stop near Straumsgarden, where a cluster of traditional Norwegian houses sits with grassy rooftops and painted in traditional Norwegian colors of red, yellow, and white. Here, you can wander to the nearby rocky beach and get a glimpse of local coastal life and more awe-inspiring mountains.

Return to Tromsø
After a day of arctic views and stories, you’ll then return to Tromsø. My tour got back around 4:30 PM which left our evening free. This is especially perfect if you’re planning to chase the Northern Lights later (we did!)
Notable Tour Inclusions
Logistics & Comfort
The tour takes care of all logistics, with pickup and drop off in Tromso, which makes your day easy with a perfectly-paced tour. Not to mention, you get to relax in a comfortable van so you can spend more time looking out at the scenery.
Lunch & Hot Drinks
About halfway through the tour, lunch and hot drinks are provided and served at picnic tables with incredible views. Lunch included a sandwich and light snack (like potato chips or apple).
Photography
The tour guide brings their nice camera along for the journey, and takes photos of you and your group which are also included in the tour price! The photos are professional-level and you’re able to request for more photos in case you want to do different poses.

Is It Worth It?
Here are pros & cons to help decide:
| 👍 Pros | ⚠️ Cons / What to Consider |

| Gorgeous Arctic scenery without a full day (or overnight) commitment. | You’ll spend some time in the vehicle (for people who dislike car ride) |
| Small group size gives a more personalized experience. | Weather might limit visibility especially for distant features (esp mountains peaks) or wildlife. |
| Limited walking; not a heavy-hiking adventure. Perfect for people who can’t handle heavy/long hikes but still want to see arctic scenery. | Limited walking; not a heavy-hiking adventure. If you want to stretch legs more, other tours or hikes may be better. |
| Guides are knowledgeable and take professional-level photos of you and your group. Photos are included in tour price too! | Some stops may be more crowded than expected (especially scenic viewpoints during peak season). |

| Picnic lunch and hot drinks included, offers stress-free experience of what and where to eat. | Picnic lunch and hot drinks included, rejecting any personal preference on restaurants or cafes. |
Tips to Make the Most of Your Adventure
1. Check Weather Forecast
Weather is always unpredictable, but check the weather forecast so you can be a bit more prepared in terms of expected temperatures so that you can dress accordingly. But be flexible and adaptable in case of any weather changes.
2. Wear Layers
When in the arctic, it’s best to dress and bring layers. Wear a moisture-wicking base layer, a warm mid-layer like a fleece or wool sweater, and an outer shell that’s water- and windproof.
3. Bring Snacks and Water
Lunch is provided as part of the tour, but in case you need a bit more sustenance during the tour, do bring your own snacks since there aren’t any stops at a market or similar.
4. Bring a Camera
Norway’s views are endless, unbeatable, and beautiful, so bring the camera to capture the beauty as best you can! Don’t forget extra batteries.

Final Words: Absolutely Worth It!
The Arctic Roadtrip: Fjords Tour with Scenic Picnic from Tromso is absolutely worth doing if you want a well-rounded nature outing without committing to a full wilderness trek. If your priority is nature, views, and a comfortable mix of sightseeing and relaxation, then definitely book it!
However, if you’re weighing this against doing something more adventurous (like fjord kayaking or glacier hiking), this tour won’t replace those but it definitely complements them and is perfect for many travelers. Not to mention, the tour ends at a perfect time to rest a bit before you chase the Northern Lights at night.
